NORFOLK — If you’re feeling wild, The Virginia Zoo has got just the prescription for you.
And no, it’s not “more cowbell.”
From April to September, zoo members will be able to leverage their memberships for free admission to participating museums in Hampton Roads.
The “museum swap” campaign applies to one particular museum per month, whose respective members will also receive the same benefits.
The schedule for this year’s swap:
- April – Nauticus And Battleship Wisconsin
- May – The Mariners’ Museum and Park
- June – Virginia Aquarium
- July – Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art
- August – The Hermitage Museum and Gardens
- September – Children’s Museum of Virginia
Virginia Zoo Executive Director Greg Bockheim said these types of outreach benefit the museums and the residents of Hampton Roads.
“Creating long-lasting partnerships with other great local organizations is one way we help bring the region together,” Bockheim said. “Plus, it’s a terrific way for our members to be able to experience the tremendous array of museums and attractions that are just down the road.”
According to their website, the zoo is home to more than 500 animals representing over 100 species. Founded in 1901 and residing on 53 landscaped acres, the zoo works to foster a passion for nature and taking conservation action at home and around the world.
The zoo partnered with two local organizations for member swaps in 2017, and more than 20,000 people people took advantage of the extra benefits by visiting the Virginia Zoo, Virginia Aquarium and Children’s Museum of Virginia, according to a news release from the zoo.
The number of admissions per membership, perks and benefits for each member swap this spring and summer varies at each location. Check out the Virginia Zoo’s website for details as they become available.
