NORFOLK — Your next trip to Jacksonville just got a lot shorter — and cheaper.

Allegiant Air announced Tuesday it is adding Jacksonville International Airport as its newest nonstop destination from the Norfolk International Airport.

Jacksonville is the airline’s fourth Florida destination with nonstop flights from Norfolk. The airline already provides nonstop service to the Orlando, Fort Lauderdale and Tampa areas.

“Allegiant is excited to offer Norfolk travelers their only ultra-low-cost, nonstop option to visit Jacksonville,” Allegiant Senior Vice President of Commercial Lukas Johnson wrote in a news release. “The Norfolk community has been very supportive of us since we first began flying here last year, and we’re pleased to be able to provide them with convenient, friendly service to enjoy all this sunny destination has to offer.”

Although flights are on sale, the seasonal service will not take off from the runway until June 14. One-way fares can be purchased for as little as $49, according to an Allegiant news release.

Those who want to travel to Jacksonville by Aug. 13 must buy their tickets online by April 4.

“The addition of nonstop service from Norfolk to Jacksonville by Allegiant will be welcoming news for many travelers. The natural military ties between our two communities, as well as a Florida vacation destination makes this news very exciting,” Norfolk Airport Authority Executive Director Robert Bowen wrote in a news release.
