James City County is encouraging residents to live a healthy lifestyle.
The county is joining the Hampton Roads Coalition of Agencies at the 22nd Annual Healthy Aging Conference. The conference will take place from 7:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on April 5 at King of Glory Lutheran Church and School, located at 4897 Longhill Road.
Featured activities include trivia, cooking demonstrations, medication check-ups, blood pressure checks and door prizes, according to a news release from the county.
Dr. Ayn Welleford, associate professor at Virginia Commonwealth University and chairwoman of the Department of Gerontology, will serve as the keynote speaker. Welleford’s work promotes optimal aging for individuals and communities through teaching, scholarships and community engagement.
Other speakers include Marley Flores-Santoro, Dr. Dilip Sarkar, Melvin Evans and Caroline Fornshell.
Flores-Santoro will speak on the importance of keeping a health journal. Sarkar will discuss health literacy. Evans will talk about legislative updates pertaining to health wellness and Fornshell will discuss nutrition.
