The Wyndham Kingsgate resort was recognized for its environmentally friendly efforts as the “Green Resort of the Year” by the Virginia Green Travel Conference.
The resort received the award at the 5th annual Virginia Green Travel Conference, which was held at the Virginia Beach Convention Center on March 1 and March 2.
In the last year, the resort has installed water bottle refilling stations to minimize the use of plastic water bottles, started using solar lighting throughout the resort, donated gently used toiletry items to nonprofits, used ponds for rain harvesting for irrigation of lawns during summer months and started a bicycle program for staff.
“It was a thrill to share this experience and recognition with some of our business partners such as The Williamsburg Winery and Clean Virginia Waterways, who we work with to clean up a waterway right here in Williamsburg,” said Judy House, an associate at Wyndham Kingsgate, according to a news release from the resort.
“Our continued efforts to reduce our carbon footprint and expand our environmental best practices were exemplified, and we are grateful for the honor from this statewide organization.”
The resort also received a congratulatory letter from State Sen. Mark Warner.
