Virginia Beach man accused of threatening to kill Rep. Scott Taylor

NORFOLK — After a disagreement over marijuana policy, a 69-year-old Virginia Beach man allegedly threatened to kill Rep. Scott Taylor, according to court documents.

Wallace Grove Godwin was arrested Thursday and charged with threatening to murder and assault a U.S. official. His arrest came the same day he allegedly visited Taylor’s Virginia Beach office and made threats toward him and his staff, according to federal court documents released by the U.S. Department of Justice.

Godwin allegedly became agitated during a discussion about marijuana policy and said to Taylor’s staff, “Scott is having an event this Saturday. I am going to get my shotgun and do something about this. I will just handle this myself,” according to court documents.

He also allegedly pointed to two staffers in the room and said, “You two are next,” court documents state.

According to the Justice Department, Thursday’s incident wasn’t the only time Godwin had interacted with Taylor and his staff.

In 2017, Godwin allegedly went to Taylor’s private home and spoke with him outside of it, and during a separate incident he allegedly visited the Virginia Beach office and yelled at congressional staff, according to court documents.
