Ex-Hampton police officer charged in connection to drug conspiracy

A man who once worked as a Hampton police officer is now accused of conspiring to distribute drugs in Hampton Roads and tampering with a FBI witness, authorities say.

Thirty-year-old Deangelo Freeman is accused of working with six other people to distribute drugs in Hampton Roads, as well as giving his accused co-conspirators the identity of a FBI confidential informant, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.

Others who are accused in the alleged conspiracy include: Alex Jermaine Burnett, Charles McMillan, Charles Bailey Jr., Mario Deyon Barrett, Jordan Davis and Stanley Freeman.

Deangelo Freeman was arrested in Idaho on Wednesday. If convicted, he could be sentenced to between 10 years and life in prison.
