NWS: Up to an inch of snow in the Southside forecast

There’s no doubt the Southside is getting snow Wednesday, but it may avoid the bulk of the wintry weather.

Updated forecasts from the National Weather Service predict Norfolk and Virginia beach could get up to an inch of snow Wednesday evening, NWS meteorologist Jeff Orrock said.

Williamsburg will be on the southern edge of a large storm system, meaning it will likely see more snow than the rest of Hampton Roads.

“It’s a tricky march [storm] system,” Orrock said.

As drivers travel north toward Richmond, northwest of Williamsburg, the amount of snow will increase up to 2 to 3 inches, Orrock said.

The snow will start in the afternoon, following a period of rain in the morning, but may not start to accumulate until later in the afternoon, around commuting time.

Temperatures will hover above freezing, Orrock added.

Snow is expected to taper off late Wednesday night.
