Southside drivers may have noticed that the price of gas is going up.
Consumer demand for gasoline is driving the price increase, according to a press release from the American Automobile Association (AAA) in Tidewater Virginia.
As the calendar turns to spring Tuesday, demand for gas is more in line with that of the summer months.
As a result, the average price of a gallon of gas in Virginia is $2.36, up $0.08 from a week ago — and up $0.33 from one year ago.
In Hampton Roads, the current price of a gallon of gas is close to the state average, at $2.35; however, local drivers are paying less for gas than much of the rest of the country. The national average for a gallon of gas is $2.55.
