National Weather Service warns of increased fire danger Thursday

The National Weather Service has issued a weather warning for Thursday, stating there will  be increased fire danger in central and eastern Virginia Thursday.

A combination of gusty winds from the west, low humidity and low fuel moisture on Thursday will increase the risk of wildfires, according to a NWS special weather statement.

Open burning is prohibited before 4 p.m. each day through April 30, the statement read.

“Residents should use caution when handling any “potential ignition source,” including machinery, matches and cigarettes.

Dry grasses and tree needles and twigs can ignite and spread the fire quickly, according to the statement.
