Democratic candidates looking to unseat Rep. Rob Wittman, R-Mechanicsville, will participate in a candidate forum, hosted by Peninsula Voices for Change, on Thursday.

Candidates Vangie Williams, Edwin Santana and John Suddarth will answer questions during the forum at 6 p.m. on March 1 at Legacy Hall, located at 4301 New Town Ave. The forum is free and open to the public.

The Democratic candidates are challenging Wittman, who has held the district seat since 2007. As of Tuesday, a Republican has not filed to run against Wittman, according to

Williams is a strategic planner for Science Applications International Corporation, Santana is a former marine, and Suddarth is a businessman and an Army veteran.

Dr. Rachel Bitecofer, the assistant director of the Wason Center for Public Policy and lecturer in government at Christopher Newport University, will moderate the event.

Kaitlyn Buckley, one of the organizers of the forum, said the questions asked during the forum have been submitted by citizens in the district.

Buckley said the forum will be an opportune chance for locals to have a dialogue with potential elected officials.

The general election will take place on Nov. 8.
