A Newport News man has been charged with maiming after he allegedly broke a beer bottle over a hotel clerk’s head, creating a deep gash on the man’s forehead.

Williamsburg Police and the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office responded to the Motel 6, located in the 3000 block of Richmond Road, around 9:10 p.m. Saturday in response to an assault, according to Williamsburg Police spokesman Maj. Greg Riley.

Before Williamsburg officer arrived, sheriff’s office deputies were able to stop a vehicle that was leaving the hotel with two passengers, one of which was identified as hotel guest Delonte Rashaud Doles, 27, of Newport News.

When Williamsburg officers arrived, they spoke to the victim, the hotel clerk, who said the guests in room six were unruly.

Because of their behavior, the clerk asked the guests to leave, resulting in an argument, Riley said.

During the argument, one of the guests, later identified as Doles, broke a beer bottle over the clerk’s head.

The clerk was transported to Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center, where he was treated for his injury and released.

Doles was intoxicated at the time of the incident, Riley said, and was arrested at the scene.

Doles was transported to the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail and charged with felony maiming and appearing drunk in public.
