James City County Police are looking for a 48-year-old Newport News man who is accused of stealing two jars of U.S. currency and a vehicle from the home of a person he knew in James City County.
Police responded to a house on Branscome Boulevard Jan. 24 for a report of a breaking and entering, larceny and a stolen vehicle, according to police spokeswoman Stephanie Williams.
The homeowner told police he came home a month earlier, on Dec. 29, to find Joey Beckman leaving his house with two cars of currency.
The homeowner estimated the jars, which were kept in a pantry in his house, contained about $800, Williams said.
Beckman then left in a 2004 Toyota Tundra, which belonged to another person who had asked the homeowner repair the truck, Williams said.
The homeowner then contacted Beckman and told him he needed to return the truck and money. Beckman agreed, saying he would return both the next day. Beckman and the homeowner know each other, although their exact relationship is unknown, Williams said.
After one month, the money and truck had not been returned.
Police obtained warrants for Beckman for grand larceny, breaking and entering, and grand larceny of an automobile, all of which are felonies.
On Feb. 6, the stolen Tundra was located in Hampton by police and returned to the owner.
The warrants are still active for Joey Beckman. If anyone knows his whereabouts, please contact James City County Police Department at 757-253-1800 or text or email tips@jamescitycountyva.gov.
