YORK COUNTY — The engineering and design firm Dewberry has been chosen by the Virginia Department of Transportation to lead the way on the third segment of the Interstate 64 widening project in York County.

The Fairfax County firm will provide transportation engineering expertise to VDOT.

The third segment of the I-64 widening project aims to widen the road from about mile marker 233 of the interstate to mile marker 241 — from Lightfoot to the Humelsine Parkway.

The firm will provide design and construction support to the project including survey, structure and bridge design work as well as roadway, environmental, and utility engineering.

The $180 million project is set to begin construction in the fall.
