Virginia Beach salon and spa to honor gift cards after Town Center business shuts its doors

VIRGINIA BEACH — After a Town Center salon and spa shut its doors the day after Christmas, another Virginia Beach business is stepping up to accept gift cards that may have been purchased before the closure.

Neighboring businesses told Southside Daily that the owners of Sumatra Spa and Salon, an Aveda spa, closed the doors to the 232 Central Park Ave. building on Dec. 26. Google lists the business as permanently closed, and when a Southside Daily reporter visited the location on Wednesday the doors were locked.

On Jan. 5, Joann Bryant, the owner of Reed Manning Salon and Spa at Redmill, posted a video on her business’ Facebook page offering to honor all of Sumatra Salon and Spa gift cards in her spa.

“Gift cards will be accepted at face value and may be used for spa services only,” Bryant said in the video, which had been shared 81 times by Thursday afternoon.

Southside Daily looked up Sumatra Salon and Spa in the Virginia Beach Business Entity search and attempted to contact the person listed as the registered agent, but he did not respond to a request for comment about the closure.

Divaris Real Estate, Inc. worked with the owners of Sumatra Salon and Spa to secure the Town Center location; however, representatives from the company declined to comment on the closure.

There is one complaint filed against the company with the Better Business Bureau. The complaint was filed on Dec. 28 and is listed as “problems with product/service.” Southside Daily contacted the BBB to find out more about the complaint, but no one responded by the time of publication.
