William & Mary senior Abby Rendle named CAA Player of the Week for the third time

For the third time this season, William & Mary women’s basketball senior Abby Rendle was named the Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week for the week of Jan. 1 the league announced on Tuesday afternoon.

Rendle helped the Tribe to a 2-0 start in league play for the second time in three seasons as she averaged 21.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 3.0 blocks per game. In the CAA opener at Charleston, Rendle scored a career-high 26 points, added seven rebounds, and a block in the victory. On Sunday, Rendle was again in double figures as she chipped in 16 points, seven more rebounds, and five rejections. For the week she shot 20-of-26 from the floor, shooting 76.9-percent. She added three assists and three steals as well. For the season, the senior is averaging, 14.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 4.7 blocks per game.

The Reston, Va. has won three of W&M’s five weekly awards after being named CAA Player of the Week for the week of Nov. 27 and Dec. 18, previously. Freshman Nyla Pollard has won the other two weekly awards, being named the league’s rookie of the week the weeks of Dec. 11 and Dec. 18.

Rendle and the Tribe continue Colonial Athletic Association play as they open a three-game homestand on Friday, Jan. 5 against Drexel. Tipoff between the Tribe and the Dragons is set for 7 p.m.
