Local police will be doing their part this weekend to make sure Christmas is special for some area kids.
The James City County Police Department will be hosting their annual Shop With A Cop at the Monticello Avenue Target Dec. 9 between 9:30 a.m. and noon, according to a James City County news release.
Shop With A Cop partners less fortunate kids with police officers for a holiday shopping spree. Children are provided a Target gift card, and the police officers help them pick out gifts for them and their families.
“Officers look forward to this rewarding experience each year,” the release said. “We hope that the relationships built through outreach programs like Shop With A Cop will be long-lasting and create fond memories of a positive impact made by police officers.”
After completing their shopping, the children will be provided a free lunch thanks to Chick-fil-A, the release said.
In addition to James City County Police, Target and Chick-fil-A, community partners for Shop With A Cop include Busch Gardens and the James City County Department of Social Services, which identifies children for participation.
