Two dogs were shot over Thanksgiving in Norfolk. One was adopted, the other killed.

NORFOLK — Police are searching for the person or people who allegedly shot and killed a dog in a Norfolk neighborhood on Thanksgiving.

The dog may have been shot near his home in the 6900 block of Bonnot Street, police said.

Police think the dog was shot on Nov. 23 after his owner let him out in the backyard and he escaped. Although the dog’s owner found him outside and brought him back into the house, she noticed he was injured the next day and took him to Bay Beach Veterinarian Hospital where he was treated for multiple bullet wounds, according to the Norfolk Police Department.

The dog died on Nov. 25.

The Bonnet Street pup wasn’t the only dog who was injured by a gun during the Thanksgiving holiday.

On Nov. 24, a Norfolk couple were pulling into their driveway in the Willoughby area of the city when they encountered a sweet but bloodied dog. They took the dog — whose name is Shadow — to the Norfolk Animal Care Center, where she eventually had surgery to remove two bullets from her face and neck.

The couple adopted Shadow on Thursday.
