Billsburg Brewery has barely been open a month, but it’s already starting its own holiday tradition.
The brewery opened in October and its owners are giving it a holiday facelift while putting a spin on Colonial Williamsburg’s annual December Christmas tree lighting.
Much like Grand Illumination, Billsburg Brewery will be hosting its “Grand Hallucination” Saturday, and trees around the property will be illuminated.
“This is our version of lighting up the Billsburg Christmas tree,” said CEO and Master Brewer Dave Baum. “If they want to get in the holiday spirit they should come here for some live music and great beer.”
The event area and the deck will be immersed in light, and garlands will be hung to complete the holiday theme; three independently-owned boats docked in the neighboring marina are already decorated in holiday lights, and more may follow, Baum added.
The event is named after Billsburg’s new Grand Hallucination Imperial Rye Porter, which is making its debut at the brewery Saturday. Billsburg is also releasing Best Friend New England India Pale Ale, and re-releasing Ghost Wind Stout and Fly Away IPA — both with a higher alcohol by volume, Baum said.
Grand Hallucination will also feature live music from Tony Bob Merritt in a heated tent and a live harp music inside the tap room.
