VIRGINIA BEACH – A local university has earned the title of one of the best career and technical schools in the nation for veterans.
ECPI University was chosen as the second-best higher education option for veterans by Military Times Best for Vets 2018.
Based on survey results, the school was one of 600 evaluated for their veteran-related programs among career and technical colleges, including community colleges and four-year career-focused colleges and universities.
“It’s an honor to be recognized for our commitment to skill-based education,” said ECPI University Executive Director of Military Education Bob Larned in a news release. “In today’s highly-technical job market, employers in such areas as computer and information science, engineering, and healthcare need people who can do the job with little or no training. That’s what ECPI University has been doing for more than half a century.”
The participating colleges and universities were rated on their services, special rules, accommodations and financial incentives offered to veteran students and their family members.
Military Times also uses data from the Veterans Affairs and Defense departments and the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System, College Scorecard data and the Cohort Default Rate Database.
Less than half of the 600 schools that participated received the Military Times Best designation this year.
“Only the best made the cut,” said George Altman, the Military Times editor in charge of the rankings, in the release.
Three additional Southside schools made this year’s list. Old Dominion University, Regent University and Tidewater Community College were also awarded for their veteran-related services and programs, according to the Military Times.
