A James City County resident was killed in a car crash Monday evening.

Virginia State Police responded to a two-vehicle accident around 6:20 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Barhamsville Road and La Grange Parkway, according to a VSP press release.

Police confirmed the deceased as 69-year-old James City County resident Steven Edward Daniels.

Daniels was driving a 1998 Chevrolet S10 at a high rate of speed when he rear-ended a tractor trailer, according to police. The collision forced Daniels’s car off the road. The car overturned and he was ejected.

Police say Daniels was not wearing his seatbelt. It is unknown whether alcohol was a contributing factor.

The accident is still under investigation and Daniels’s family has been notified by police.
