One killed and eight injured in Norfolk shootings over weekend

NORFOLK — A man was killed and eight other people were injured in four shootings in Norfolk this weekend.

The first shooting killing 20-year-old James Henderson Jr., of Chicago at 3 a.m. on Saturday in the 700 block of Washington Avenue. An unidentified 25-year-old man and 26-year-old Donald Bowman were also injured in the shooting, according to the Norfolk Police Department.

Bowman, of Suffolk, was charged with second-degree murder, malicious wounding and the use of a gun in the commission of a felony in connection with the shooting.

A 32-year-old man was injured in a second shooting on Saturday in the 400 block of Monticello Avenue. The shooting happened around 11:50 p.m. and sent the man to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with a non-life-threatening injury, according to the NPD.

A Richmond man, 32-year-old Jameik Chilsom, was charged with malicious wounding and the use of a gun in the commission of a felony in connection with the shooting.

Hours later, a 19-year-old man was shot in the 800 block of W. 42nd Street. Police took the man to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital around 1:15 a.m. on Sunday. When he arrived, two other men, aged 20 and 21, also arrived at the hospital with gunshot wounds and police determined they were all shot in the same location, according to the NPD.

No one has been arrested in connection with that shooting.

The NPD responded to a fourth shooting at 10:45 p.m. on Sunday when two residents reported that their home, located in the 1000 block of 50th Street, was invaded by two unknown men. Both suspects were shot but left the scene before police arrived, according to the NPD.

Later two men came to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. Police determined that they were the suspected of invading the 50th Street home. They have been detained and will be charged when they are released, according to the NPD.
