Heads up motorists, James City County Police will be out in full force this weekend and up through Halloween with increased DUI patrols and checkpoints.
The increased police presence is part of an effort to keep impaired drivers off the roadways, according to a county news release.
“If you plan to be out drinking, make sure you plan a safe ride home prior to leaving,” the release stated.
The overtime pay allotted to officers for extra DUI enforcement was made possible through a Department of Motor Vehicles Highway Safety Office grant, read the release.
Police also remind all those out driving on Halloween to watch for trick-or-treating children.
“As they might forget to watch out for you,” read the release.
According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, there were 55 traffic related deaths on Halloween night in 2015, up from 17 in 2011, the release stated.
