Police identify man ejected, killed in I-64 crash

Virginia State Police have identified the person killed in a crash Monday night near Croaker Road on Interstate 64 as a 42-year-old Alexandria man.

Jose Luis Cruz Barrios, of the 4500 block of Colony Court in Alexandria, Va., was traveling eastbound on I-64 around 10 p.m. Monday when his car went into the median near mile-marker 231, Virginia State Police Sgt. Michelle Anaya said Thursday.

The car hit an embankment, struck a tree and overturned, Anaya said.

Barrios and a passenger, who police have not identified, were both ejected from the vehicle.

Barrios died at the scene and the passenger was transported to Riverside Regional Hospital with injuries not considered serious, Anaya said.

The Virginia State Police Reconstruction Team investigated at the scene.

Police are still investigating the accident.
