A Newport News man facing a slew of larceny charges after allegedly breaking into vehicles in James City County is now facing other similar charges in York County after breaking in the door of a Luna Carter Road house.
Xavier McKay, 22, was arrested Sept. 29 by the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office in connection with two separate incidents in the county, according to York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Shelley Ward said.
McKay is charged with two counts of grand larceny, conspiracy to commit grand larceny, larceny of checks, three counts of entering or setting in motion a vehicle and credit card theft in connection with an incident in York County Aug. 23.
Sheriff’s office investigators also believe McKay broke down the front door of a woman’s house on Aug. 26.
Deputies responded to the 600 block of Luna Carter Road on Aug. 26 around 1:40 p.m. after a woman returned home to find her front door “kicked in,” Ward said.
The woman told police money and jewelry had been stolen from her home.
McKay is charged with breaking and entering, destruction of property valued at over $1,000, destruction of property valued at less than $1,000, grand larceny, and attempted breaking and entering.
James City County Police charged him with over two dozen offenses on Oct. 2 in connection with alleged larcenies on Sept. 8, including grand larceny of a firearm, five counts of grand larceny, two counts of petit larceny, and 17 counts of entering a vehicle without consent of owner with intent to commit a crime.
The larcenies occurred in the Adams Hunt, Longhill Station and Windmill Meadow neighborhoods, James City County Police said. Victims told police their vehicles had been rummaged through and clothing, purses, change, cash, a laptop, a firearm and other miscellaneous items were taken.
Williamsburg-James City County General District Court records show McKay is charged with participating in a prohibited criminal street gang.
McKay was previously charged with petit larceny, larceny of checks, burglary at night to commit a felony, entering or setting in motion a vehicle, and other similar charges in York County, but all 29 charges were dropped, according to online York-Poquoson General District Court records.
