Police are searching for a man they believe fought with a 7-Eleven clerk over a six-pack of beer before stealing two beers and fleeing in a sedan. The store’s manager told police the man appeared intoxicated at the time.

On Saturday around 3:50 p.m., Williamsburg police were called to the 7-Eleven on Page Street in response to a larceny, said department spokesman Maj. Greg Riley.

When police arrived, a store manager reported that a man attempted to take a six-pack of beer without paying for it after a clerk refused to sell it to him because he “appeared intoxicated.”

After the clerk removed the beer from the counter, the man grabbed her and tried to take the beer from her, Riley said.

During the “brief scuffle,” Riley added, two beers fell from the six-pack. The man grabbed the two beers and fled the scene in a four-door Pontiac Grand Prix. He was headed in the direction of Bypass Road.

The Williamsburg Police Department is working to identify the man from the above photo, which was taken from the store’s surveillance camera.
