NORFOLK — With Halloween around the corner, the Virginia Zoo is preparing to offer families a safe and fun place for trick-or-treating.

The zoo is encouraging families to wear their costumes to the park on Oct. 21 for the 2017 ZooBoo celebration.

As trick-or-treaters make their way through pumpkin-decorated exhibits, they can add some candy to their bags before Halloween as more than 30 community partners pass out treats to attendees.

According to a press release, candy passed out will be from companies who are members of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil, a non-profit that works with different organizations to use certified sustainable palm oil in their products.

The event will feature a show at the ZooLive! stage where attendees can meet the zoo’s animal ambassadors.

ZooBoo will also feature activities like the Mad Scientist Lab and “extinction graveyard” where attendees can learn about different species that have gone extinct across the globe.

Tickets for Virginia Zoo members ages 2 and up are $6, while non-member admission will be $15.

Tickets are available online at or by phone at 757-441-2374. Tickets can also be purchased at the Membership Office during regular Zoo hours.
