Man kills himself after 10 hours of negotiations with Virginia Beach SWAT team

VIRGINIA BEACH — After 10 hours of negotiations with a Virginia Beach SWAT team, a man killed himself in a car on Monday morning.

The Virginia Beach Police Department responded to the 2300 block of W. Great Neck Road around 11:58 p.m. on Sunday for a “dispute call.” A man who was in a car in the area was threatening to harm himself.

When he refused to surrender and police realized he had the means to hurt himself, a SWAT team began to communicate and negotiate with the man, according to the VBPD.

The negotiation lasted for 10 hours; however, they were not able to talk him out of the car and he killed himself, according to the VBPD.
