NORFOLK — A Southside comfort food restaurant is planning on bringing its southern-style flair to Granby Street.

Hair of the Dog Eatery is expected to open a third location at the site of the former Harry’s Famous Barbecue, located at 250 Granby St.

With locations already in Loehmann’s Plaza on Virginia Beach Boulevard and across from Old Dominion University on Hampton Boulevard, co-owner Bryan Connolly said he and his partners are looking to bring a “simple back-to-basics kind of approach” to the area.

“We’re foodies, don’t get us wrong, but there comes a time where you just kind of have to take a step back and take a deep breath,” Connolly said. “I mean there are some amazing restaurants down there. We’re not doing anything crazy like some of the other guys down there do. We just want to continue doing what we do and hopefully, the clientele and customers down there will appreciate it.”

According to Connolly, the new restaurant will feature core recipes and principles he and his team cultivated since opening back in 2012 while also catering to the atmosphere demographics with some changes and additions to the menu.

“We just feel that Norfolk is such a dynamic city, that it’s very compartmentalized,” he said “The traffic that we get at ODU is completely different than the traffic that we are going to get on Granby Street. We feel that there’s a need and a want for something that we do, the style of Hair of the Dog, on Granby Street and we’d like to oblige.”

An opening date for Hair of the Dog’s Granby Street location has not yet been announced.
