The words “Go Navy!” now cover the 5,800-square-foot roof of Beach Ford’s new service reception center.
The patriotic message — printed aptly in bold blue and red lettering against a white backdrop — was unveiled last week with the dealership’s logo in much smaller print beneath it so that Navy pilots know who is wishing them well, said Beach Ford President Tom Barton III.
Barton said he hopes the sign will serve as an encouraging message for Navy pilots flying overhead to nearby Naval Air Station Oceana — and beyond.
“They allow us to all freely do our jobs each and every day,” Barton said. “They’re out there risking their lives so that all of us can enjoy the freedoms and lives that we lead at home. They do it for very little more than just a thank you, so that’s kind of our way of thanking them.”
The message comes just in time to be seen by the Navy’s Blue Angels, who will attract thousands to the NAS Oceana Air Show this weekend.
The dealership, located at 2717 Virginia Beach Blvd., has been in Virginia Beach for nearly 40 years, and has often supported the military via donations to charities and welcome home messages to deployed sailors.
The “Go Navy!” sign, Barton said, is just another way to say “thanks.”
“We’re hoping that pilots … notice and feel like it’s a great big thank you to them,” he said.
