The Peninsula Health District is asking residents’ assistance in tracking down a husky they believe bit a person near the First Colony neighborhood Thursday.

According to a press release from the Peninsula Health District, a husky/lab mix bit the person near the intersection of Greensprings Road and The Maine. The dog reportedly weighs between 75 and 90 pounds.

The bite victim may have to receive the rabies vaccine if the dog is not found. If the dog is found, it will not be taken away from its owner — instead it will be restricted to the owner’s home for a period of 10 days, the release said.

The Peninsula Health District asks anyone who has seen a dog matching the description in the area to call the Williamsburg Health Center at 757-603-4277 or James City County/Williamsburg Animal Control at 757-253-1800.

Residents are urged to vaccinate their pets against rabies, report all exposures and observe wildlife from a distance.
