NORFOLK – A city man was arrested after he assaulted multiple officers, police said.
Around 3 p.m. on Monday, dispatchers were notified of broken glass and a vandalized car in the 2800 block of Park Crescent. Responding officers found a disrobed and bleeding 36-year-old Norfolk man, Gary Hardy, walking on the roadway in the 300 block of Campostella Road.
Police said when they tried to arrest Hardy, he hit an officer in the face, causing a severe cut. Hardy then refused police orders to lie on the ground and was tasered, police said.
After the arrest, police said Hardy was taken to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.
Police said Hardy was charged with one count of assault on a law enforcement officer, one count of vandalism, one count of possession of narcotics, one count of disorderly conduct and one count of indecent exposure.
At the hospital, Hardy assaulted two additional police officers when he threw urine on them. Police said Hardy also vandalized the hospital room and when police tried to restrain Hardy, he bit an officer.
After the hospital incident, Hardy was charged with two more counts of assault on a law enforcement officer, one count felony vandalism, one count of obstruction of justice and one count of disorderly conduct.
All officers were treated at the hospital, police said.
Police said that Hardy is being treated at the hospital, but will be transported to the Norfolk City Jail upon his discharge.
