NORFOLK — Police are searching for two North Carolina fugitives — one with family ties to Norfolk — who they believe are armed and dangerous.

Sean D. Castorina, 42, and Penny M. Dawson, 40, both of Burlington, N.C., are wanted in connection with the Aug. 22 shooting of a 60-year-old woman in Nelson County.

The woman was seriously injured when she was shot in a home on Laurel Road, near Rockfish River around 7:30 p.m. A white 2002 Dodge Dakota with a license plate that reads DHN 5418 was also missing from her home when police responded, according to the Virginia State Police.

The investigation into the shooting began about 45 minutes after police discovered an abandoned 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt on Laurel Road in Nelson County. The car belongs to 84-year-old Harold Dean Simpson, who has been missing from Burlington N.C. since Aug. 19, according to the VSP.

Simpson was last seen by his family at 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 18 and he has no history of dementia or cognitive impairments, police say.

Police say Castorina has family in Norfolk. He and Dawson are wanted for malicious wounding and use of a firearm.

Anyone with information on these people or the missing vehicle should call 911.
