Crash on I-64 causes major delays, 3.5-mile backup in James City County

Update 2 p.m.: All lanes have been cleared and the detour has been lifted, according to VDOT. 

Motorists on Interstate 64 should expect major delays after a vehicle accident closed both westbound lanes in James City County Wednesday morning.

The crash was blocking both lanes at 11:54 a.m., causing a 3.5-mile backup, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

Virginia State Police spokeswoman Sgt. Michelle Anaya said the crash involved two vehicles and all injuries are not considered life-threatening.

According to VDOT traffic cameras, the crash is near mile-marker 245.

Virginia State Police and VDOT have both identified the crash location as York County, but VDOT crash cameras show the crash closer to mile marker 245 in James City County.
