NORFOLK — Officials say a four-foot-long snake was picked up by animal control Tuesday morning.
According to police spokesperson Daniel Hudson, animal control responded to reports of a snake roaming around the 1200 block of Oak Park Road at around 7:30 a.m.
The person who called in the sighting told police that they had covered the snake with a bucket on the sidewalk, Hudson said.
Norfolk Animal Care and Adoption officials identified the snake as a ball python at around 1 year old.
Officials say the python is in overall good health but is currently being warmed in a heated aquarium following the weather and heavy rainfall.
According to city spokesperson Lori Crouch, the snake is being held on 10-day stray hold and is believed to be a missing pet.
Following the 10-day period, Crouch said the snake will be turned over to snake rescue specialists.
