VIRGINIA BEACH — As the NFL gears up for a new season, fantasy football fans nationwide are preparing to draft their teams.

In an effort to give local football fans a leg up on their league this season, the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame will host Pro Football Fantasy Fest on Aug. 24.

Fantasy Fest will be held at the Westin Hotel at Town Center from 6-9 p.m.

As the Hall of Fame works to transition away from being a museum, the event will offer an opportunity for patrons to interact with hall of famers and other fantasy football fanatics.

The event will feature appearances from Hall of Fame inductees, Kenny Easley and William Fuller.

Easley spent his seven-year career as a strong safety for the Seattle Seahawks during the 1980s. Fuller played as a defensive end for the Houston Oilers (now the Tennessee Titans), Philadelphia Eagles, and San Diego Chargers over a 12-year span.

A panel discussion is also scheduled for the evening, featuring Virginia Secretary of Public Safety Brian Moran, a 2016 fantasy football champion.

A member of the audience who will be picked on the day of the event will also participate with other panelists.

“Fantasy Fest is the first of many events the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame will stage as we evolve into a sustainable organization honoring athletes, coaches and other contributors to the games we love as well as engaging fans of amateur and professional sports in topical and lively programs,” said Virginia Sports Hall of Fame Chairman Joel Rubin in a press release.

While there will be no fantasy drafts that night, Rubin added, the event will be a fun opportunity for players to share their passion and increase their chances of having a successful team.

The Fantasy Fest is open to the public. Admission is $25 per person, and interested parties should RSVP by Aug. 18.
