A GoFundMe.com campaign has been created to raise money for the family of a woman who was struck and killed by an SUV last week.

Sheila Cowles, 50, was walking along Richmond Road in Toano June 26 when she was hit by a 2010 Ford Explorer. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her son Trevon Loftin graduated from Warhill High School June 17, according to the GoFundMe campaign. The campaign was created by Karen Riedel, who said Trevon is a friend of her nephew.

“Anyone that knows Trevon, knows that he is a wonderful person that is always happy, never has a bad thing to say about anyone, and would give you the shirt off his back,” said Riedel on the page.

She created the campaign to help ease the financial burden of Cowles’ funeral, Riedel added.

Trevon will be playing football for Hampden-Sydney College in the fall, and Riedel said she hopes the community will offer Trevon its support.

“You can see how the loss of his mother has impacted him,” Riedel wrote in an email. “He is a great person and I am hoping the community will assist us in helping Trevon and his family out.”
