VIRGINIA BEACH — A large new traffic light in Sandbridge should be operational by Tuesday afternoon, according to public works spokesperson Drew Lankford.
The final work for the light pole at the intersection of Sandbridge Road, Heritage Park Drive and Entrada Drive will take place Tuesday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. after being postponed from Saturday.
Lankford said public works director Phillip Davenport ordered the work to be rescheduled to Tuesday because of heavy weekend traffic.
“Weekends in the summer aren’t the best time for roadwork,” Lankford said in an interview. “Even if they’re stopping traffic for just two minutes, it builds up.”
Motorists can expect sporadic traffic stops and lane shifts during the scheduled construction time, according to a news release.
Lankford said crews began construction on the pole back in April and that the traffic signals should be operational by 5 p.m.
