NORFOLK — Tomorrow’s next big country music artist could be a barista in Kempsville as the Country Showdown makes its way into Norfolk and Hampton.

The Waterside District is accepting online submissions for aspiring country music artist who are looking for a platform to launch their singing careers in the nationwide country music talent search. Submissions will be accepted through July 16.

Regional auditions for the country music talent showcase will be hosted at PBR country bars in Norfolk and Hampton.

Predating popular talent contests like American Idol and The Voice, Country Showdown has been a showcase for country artists for the last 36 years and has helped kickstart the careers of some of the biggest performers in the genre.

Performers like Garth Brooks, Blake Shelton, Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan and more have all been a part of the competition’s legacy.

The top 16 auditions submitted online will earn an opportunity to perform live for judges at PBR’s in Norfolk at the Waterside District or PBR Hampton Roads, located at 1976 Power Plant Parkway in Hampton.

Finalists from the local tryouts will then compete against each other on Thursday, July 27 at the Norfolk PBR for a shot in the national show in Nashville where the grand prize is $100,000 in cash and prizes.
