Police: Two men charged in shooting that killed Chesterfield Heights woman

NORFOLK — Two men are facing felony charges after a 49-year-old woman was shot to death in her Chesterfield Heights home on Sunday night.

Ronald M. Best, 41, was charged with second-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and shooting into an occupied dwelling in connection to the death of 49-year-old Samantha F. Ganther.

Another man, 50-year-old Ulysses Butler was also charged with malicious wounding, shooting into an occupied vehicle and use of a gun in the commission of a felony.

Police believe Ganther was shot during an argument between Best and Butler in the 2700 block of Kimball Terrace.

Police say the men got into an argument, and Best went to his parked car. While he was in the car, Butler is accused of shooting several rounds of ammunition at him, hitting the car and injuring him via shattered glass, according to the Norfolk Police Department.

Best got out of the car and returned fire, hitting and killing Ganther, according to the NPD.

Police found Ganther shot to death in her Chesterfield Heights home around 7:35 p.m.

Both men are in the Norfolk City Jail and were not granted bond.
