VIRGINIA BEACH — A driver died and a motorcyclist was seriously injured in two separate crashes in Virginia Beach over the weekend.
On Friday night, a man driving west in the 5700 block of Bayside Road drove his car into oncoming traffic, ran off the road and hit a tree, according to the Virginia Beach Police Department.
Paramedics took the man to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The VBPD’s Fatal Crash Team is investigating the wreck. The man’s name won’t be released to the public until his family has been notified.
On Saturday afternoon, a motorcyclist was traveling on Palace Green Boulevard before turning right into oncoming traffic on South Plaza Trail. A driver traveling along South Plaza Trail in a Nissan Altima moved into the right lane to avoid crashing with the motorcycle, but the motorcyclist sideswiped the car.
Authorities responded to the crash in the 3800 block of South Plaza Trail at 1:39 p.m. and the motorcyclist, who has not been identified, was taken to a local hospital in serious condition.
Police say that alcohol and speeding were factors in the crash.
