NORFOLK — A Norfolk man is facing four felonies after he was accused of sexually assaulting a 5-year-old in a Public Storage parking lot.

Matthew Davis, 23, is charged with taking indecent liberties with a child, aggravated sexual battery of a child and two counts of sodomy, according to the Norfolk Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.

The child told police that at least once between September 2016 and Feb. 4, Davis took the victim to the parking lot of Public Storage, located at 854 Widgeon Road, and sexually assaulted the child in the car, according to documents filed in Norfolk Circuit Court.

The child reported the assault to other family members on Feb. 4. The child said that Davis parked in the parking lot, covered the windows and touched the victim inappropriately. The child also said they were raped by Davis, court documents show.

Family members reported the assault to the Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughter Child Abuse Program Center on Feb. 28.

During the investigation, Davis told police that he does lease a storage unit at that Public Storage facility.

Davis is scheduled to appear in Norfolk JDR Court on July 13.
