NORFOLK — A convicted sex offender who was wanted by the Norfolk Police Department was found after a tip led to his arrest outside of a San Francisco homeless shelter on Tuesday.

Police have been looking for Daniel Arnold Nickerson, 59, since June of 2014 when he failed to show up for a hearing on charges related to aggravated sexual battery and taking indecent liberties with a child. Nickerson was charged in September 2013 and released from jail on bond in March of 2014, according to the NPD.

Earlier this year, a Norfolk Crime Line tip led police to investigate his whereabouts in San Francisco. The tipster told police he was hiding among the homeless population there. On Tuesday, U.S. Marshals found him in downtown San Francisco outside of a homeless shelter, according to the NPD.

The Virginia State Police say Nickerson was also wanted for failing to register as a sex offender after he was convicted in 2005 of risking injury to a child in Connecticut.

Nickerson is currently at the San Francisco County Jail and will be extradited to Virginia.
