VIRGINIA BEACH — The bridge connecting Hilltop and the Oceanfront above Great Neck Creek will likely be crowded during the upcoming summer months.

Virginia Beach Public Works announced Tuesday its plans to perform roadwork on Laskin Road, between Birdneck Road and Bayway Place from June 14 until Aug. 4.

Crews will carry out milling, paving and pavement marking work on both east and westbound lanes during weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., according to a Public Works news release.

All work is weather permitting, and any weekend work necessary will happen between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.

The city urges motorists to seek an alternative route instead of traveling on the roadway, as lane closures could create congestion, traffic delays and construction noise. Signs with lane closure information will be posted near the site, according to the release.

When traveling west from the Oceanfront on Laskin Road, motorists can make a left on North Birdneck Road to take I-264 and get back on at First Colonial Road.

Motorists heading east on Laskin Road can make a right on First Colonial Road to get on I-264 and get back on at North Birdneck Road.
