Norfolk toddler dies Sunday, parents charged with abuse

NORFOLK — A man and woman are facing felony charges after their toddler died in a Norfolk hospital on Sunday.

Evalynn Arnold, 2, was unresponsive when police took her from the 700 block of Lexington Street to the Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters around 7:45 a.m. on Thursday, according to the Norfolk Police Department.

She remained in critical condition for several days before dying.

Her mother, 26-year-old Destiny Martin, and stepdad, 25-year-old Robert Griffis, have been charged with child abuse, child neglect and malicious wounding. They may face other charges in the future, according to the NPD.

The charges are felonies. They are being held without bond in the Norfolk City Jail.
