Memorial Day closings throughout the Historic Triangle

Each year, at the end of May, organizations nationwide acknowledge Memorial Day, a holiday dedicated to the remembrance of those who died in service to the U.S. Armed Forces.

Throughout the Historic Triangle, multiple public establishments will have their doors closed to the public in observance of this federal holiday.

City of Williamsburg

In the City of Williamsburg, all offices in the Municipal Building on Lafayette Street, Williamsburg Regional Library administrative offices in the Stryker Center, the Quarterpath Recreation Center and the Williamsburg James City County Courthouse on Monticello Avenue will be closed on May 29.

The Williamsburg Regional Library will be closed both Sunday and Monday. Garbage collection services will have a one-day delay, meaning regularly-scheduled Monday and Tuesday pick-ups will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively.

Locations remaining open to the public throughout the holiday weekend include Waller Mill Park and all other city parks in Williamsburg.

York County

In York County, the courts, York County Offices, Virginia Cooperative Extension Service, York-Poquoson Social Services, York County Public Libraries, Waste Management Administrative Office, and VPPSA Composting Facility will all be closed for Memorial Day.

However, the Waste Management Transfer Station and citizen drop-off areas for garbage and recycling will be open May 29 during regular operating hours. Curbside garbage and recycling collections will not be affected by the Monday holiday.

James City County

In James City County, county offices, the James City County Recreation Center, the Abram Frink Jr. Community Center, courts, convenience centers, and garbage transfer station will be closed on Memorial Day.

James City County libraries will be closed on both Sunday and Monday. While all county parks will remain open to the public Monday, the park store/offices of Freedom Park, Chickahominy Riverfront Park, James City County Marina, and Little Creek Reservoir Park will be closed.
