A North Carolina woman was arrested in James City County after throwing punches with one arm while holding an infant in the other.

Shortly after midnight Wednesday, May 3, James City County Police responded to reports of an assault in progress at a residence on the 100 block of Penniman Road, according to Stephanie Williams of the James City County Police Department.

Ashley Boone, 29, of Greensboro, N.C. was sitting on a couch holding an infant when police arrived.

The victim of the assault had bruises on her head and around an eye, and told police the bruises were where Boone had struck her. Boone allegedly kicked her way into the bedroom to reach the victim before assaulting her, Williams said.

The victim also reported Boone was holding the infant throughout the altercation. The infant was not harmed during the assault.

Child Protective Services took the child to a relative’s home, who agreed to take care of the child, Williams said.

Police arrested Boone, who was charged with domestic assault, child neglect and destruction of property.
