I-264 delays expected for Monday night motorists

VIRGINIA BEACH — Drivers planning to take I-264 late Monday night and early Tuesday morning can expect temporary delays as Dominion Virginia Power crews perform utility work.

Between 10 p.m. Monday, May 8 and 4 a.m. Tuesday, May 9, motorists may experience frequent stand-still traffic on eastbound and westbound lanes of I-264 between Independence Boulevard and Newtown Road, according to a Virginia Department of Transportation news release.

As crews work, Virginia State Police will guide traffic in 10 mph processions traveling in the corridor in waves that could end in 20-minute stoppages at a time before the next procession begins, according to the release.

VDOT scheduled Tuesday and Wednesday, May 10 as backup dates in case of inclement weather, the release states.

According to VDOT, the work crews will perform on the roadway is part of the I-64/I-264 Interchange Improvements project’s second phase.
