High water warnings leave roads closed in Princess Anne District

VIRGINIA BEACH — Strong winds blowing into Back Bay has left several areas in the Princess Anne district of Virginia Beach flooded Tuesday.

The areas are expected to be impassable until Thursday.

City officials reported that North Landing River current surface elevation surpassed its threshold of 1.5 feet by almost an entire foot, resulting in the North Landing Bridge being closed to all boat traffic.

Sandbridge Road is currently closed where it connects with Atwoodtown Road. There are also several “high water” signs located along Sandbridge Road where the street connects with Entrada Drive and New Bridge Road.

In order to allow drivers access to Sandbridge, the back gate of Dam Neck Base has been opened.

Trash and recycle pickup will in impacted areas will delayed until the the roads are accessible.

Other affected areas include:

  • 2300 Block of Pungo Ferry Road
  • 4200 Block of Muddy Creek Road
  • Pleasant Ridge Road/Muddy Creek Road
  • Nanny’s Creek Area​
  • West Neck Road/Princess Anne Road
  • 2200 Block of Indian River Road
Locations affected by the high water event in Princess Anne District. The flooded conditions are expected to last until 3 a.m. Wednesday morning
