This spring, area residents interested in learning about firearm safety have a golden opportunity coming up.
The James City County Police Department will offer free firearm safety classes during April, May and June, a police spokeswoman said. The classes will take place at the Law Enforcement Center, 4600 Opportunity Way.
Each 90-minute session will cover basic safety, handling, storage and basic state laws related to carrying a concealed handgun in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
The class does not include hands-on training. Personal firearms should be left at home in a secure location.
This course meets the requirement for the “Documentation of Proof of Handgun Competency” as part of the Virginia Concealed Handgun Permit application process. A certificate of attendance will be provided to attendees.
