TCC to feature students’ glassblowing, photography, graphic design, more at annual art exhibition

PORTSMOUTH — More than 200 pieces of Tidewater Community College students’ artwork will be on display and judged for a cash prize.

The 46th Annual Student Art and Design Exhibition runs March 25 through April 23 and will feature photography, graphic design, glassblowing and ceramics made by students over the past year at TCC’s Visual Arts Center.

The exhibition is free and open to the public, according to a TCC news release.

Norfolk State University assistant professor Sam Hughes will judge the media and present $3,535 in awards at the Commodore Theatre, April 1 at 11 a.m. The opening reception will follow the same day at noon at the Visual Arts Center.

The exhibition’s programming include lectures from local professionals throughout April.

Walt Taylor, editorial and political cartoonist at The Virginian-Pilot, will present “The Art of Seeing” Tuesday, April 4. Josh Newton, art director at local ad agency Grow, will present “Now What? Life After Art School” on Wednesday, April 12. Both presentations will begin at 12:30 p.m. in rooms 208 and 209 at the Visual Arts Center, according to the release.
